1. Plan F may be offered with a high-deductible option of $2,700. The benefits are the same as in the standardized plan, but the deductible must be met each year before any claims are paid. Once the plan deductible is met, the plan pays 100% of covered services for the rest of the calendar year.

Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan F was once the benchmark for the Medicare Supplement Insurance business. This plan was designed to cover all of the high risk gaps that are not covered by original Medicare. This plan has proven to be a great tool for those who want to budget their annual healthcare cost. The comprehensive coverage offered by the Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan F is designed to leave you the insured with no out of pocket expense for Medicare approved services. With zero out of pocket expense you can see how it makes budgeting very easy. No wonder it is the most popular Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans offered.

Medicare Supplement Plan F includes basic benefits which include:

  • Hospitalization: Medicare Part A coinsurance plus coverage for 365 additional days after Medicare benefits end.
  • Medical Expenses: Medicare Part B coinsurance (generally 20% of Medicare-approved expenses) or copayments for hospital outpatient services. Plans K, L, & N require insured to pay a portion of Part B coinsurance or copayments.
  • Blood: First 3 pints of blood each year. Hospice: Part A coinsurance.

Hospice Care will be included in all Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans as of June 2010.

Medicare Supplement Plan F includes coverage for the Medicare Part A (Hospital) and Medicare Part B (Medical) deductibles. It also covers any excess costs for Medicare Part B (Medical) costs. The excess can be very important because you would be responsible for the medical bills above the amount approved by Medicare. Even though the Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan G does not pay the Medicare Part B (Medical) deductible, it is the only other Medicare Supplement plan that provides the Medicare Part B (Medical) excess benefit coverage.

All plans were standardized by the federal government in 1992 for your protection. This means that you are to go by the letter I.D. of the plan to determine what benefits each plan will cover.

The only 2 things that an insurance company who offers a Medicare Supplement Plan B can have any control of are:

  1. Underwriting
  2. Premium price
