The company offers the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) to Medicare beneficiaries. Neither Original Medicare nor Medigap Insurance offers benefits for prescription drug purchases. According to the article, “Medco lobbied Congress, the White House, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Federal Trade Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Congressional Budget Office, and the Office of Personnel Management.” The prescription plan provider is also heavily invested in mail order prescriptions, which is popular among seniors.
