Medigap Checklist

If you’re one of the many people who would like to determine whether or not you’re eligible for Medigap Insurance, look no further.

Medigap Eligibility ChecklistWe have a checklist of eligibility requirements and it is quite possibly the shortest checklist you’ll ever have to check off.

To determine your Medigap eligibility status, you must first find out if your eligible for Medicare.

  • I am at least 65 years old or I qualify for disability.
  • I am a U.S. citizen or legal resident.

If you can successfully check off those two items you’re on to the next list. Medigap coverage is an extension of your Original Medicare coverage. That’s why this type of insurance is often referred to as Supplemental Insurance because it “supplements” Medicare. Furthermore, to be eligible for Medigap you must be enrolled in Medicare.

  • I am enrolled in Medicare Part A
  • I am enrolled in Medicare Part B

If you’ve checked off everything so far, there is only one more concern to address. Technically you can enroll in a Medigap policy anytime of the year. However, during certain time periods you are subject to medical can underwriting and waiting periods. Check out one of our previous posts for information on the best time to enroll.
