I don’t remember what product or service that company was providing, but I remember thinking, “Why would any company call itself Acme? Anybody buying what that company is selling had better be prepared to fall off a cliff.”
Falling off a cliff, of course, is the fate that frequently befell Wile E Coyote when one of his Acme Roadrunner-catching products malfunctioned.
Even so, Wile E Coyote’s pursuit of the Roadrunner was sheer genius—often on his part, and definitely on the part of Warner Bros Cartoons.
Perhaps you’ve noticed …
Most of the classic cartoons on this short list are connected in a way that’s often forgotten. But you may recall that a single voice actor performed the voices of all the Warner Bros characters I’ve mentioned—and a lot more classic characters you’d be familiar with. The voices of Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, the Roadrunner, Daffy, Yosemite Sam, Tweety, Sylvester, Foghorn Leghorn, Pepe le Pew, Barney Rubble, Woody Woodpecker, Elmer Fudd … these longtime favorites and many more were the work of Mel Blanc, the man of a thousand voices and without a doubt one of the all-time giants of American comedy.
If you’re a big fan of the oldies but goodies, consider checking out some of the cartoon channels available via cable TV or satellite. If you love such classics as Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Secret Squirrel, Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, and The Flintstones, why not do yourself a favor and try subscribing to a channel certain to make you laugh? After all, it’s well established that laughter can help relieve stress and contribute to good health.
