Thankfully, it is easy to incorporate berries into your diet on a fairly consistent basis.
Berries are obviously available at any grocery store, but if you can find a farmers market in your area, opt for purchasing as much fruit as possible from there. Even when fresh produce isn’t in season, you can purchase frozen fruit at your local grocery store. I opt for a no-sugar-added version of frozen berries. Frozen berries are easy to mix into smoothies for a delicious snack or meal replacement. I like to add berries to my breakfast cereal or oatmeal in the morning for a well-balanced morning meal. Starting your day off with berries in some form helps to jumpstart your body with the right nutrients.
Another way to incorporate berries is to put them into green salads for just the right amount of sweetness. Fruit salad is a great way to eat a wider variety of fruits. An easy trick to remember when making fruit salad is to try to add berries from all around the color spectrum. Blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries are just three examples of berries that provide a wide variety of nutrients. I also enjoy adding berries to cottage cheese, greek yogurt or oatmeal for a well-rounded, nutrient-rich snack in between meals. If you don’t feel like doing any kind of preparation, berries taste great on their own and a small handful will give you a quick but healthy energy boost. Since berries are so low in calories, you don’t have to worry about over-consumption as much as you would when snacking on many other high calorie foods. Upping your intake of berries doesn’t have to be challenging. Aim to add a cup of berries a day into your diet. When you break it down and divide it up between meals, it becomes very simple to ensure you are getting all the berries that you need.
Berries are an easy, wholesome way to include a variety of nutrients in your diet. As we begin the month of February, resolve to eat a more balanced diet and try to add berries into your food consumption on a regular basis! You’ll be surprised at the increase in energy that you feel. Thankfully, eating more berries isn’t the only healthy choice you can make as February rolls around. A Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage plan will further optimize your healthcare coverage, helping you to make the most of the next year!
