The follow is a wrap-up of stories in the news about Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans:
Dr. Donald Berwick is the current nominee for the Chief of Medicare in Washington but Senate Republicans disapprove of the choice. According to the Washington Post, on Thursday, GOP senators released a letter asking the president to withdraw his nomination of Berwick. One senator accused Berwick as having a “general lack of experience” in the senior health insurance industry.
House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan continues to voice his opinion about his new proposal for Medicare. Ryan’s plan would work similarly to Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans in that they are distributed through private health insurance companies. The new system, coined “the voucher” system, however uses income as a determinant of how much one will pay.
